Shopify website quotation in India: a sample quote, line by line
A sample Shopify quotation in INR, line by line: a ₹3,00,000 custom build and a ₹60,000 starter store, plus what every quote must state and leave out.

The short answer
- A Shopify starter store on a configured theme costs ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000 in India in 2026 and takes 1 to 2 weeks; a custom theme build costs ₹1,50,000 to ₹8,00,000 over 4 to 8 weeks.
- In a typical ₹3,00,000 custom Shopify quote, theme development (₹1,20,000) and design (₹60,000) make up 60% of the total.
- Bulk product upload on Shopify is usually priced at ₹35 to ₹100 per product in India, so 120 products adds roughly ₹4,200 to ₹12,000 to a quote.
- Recurring costs sit outside any build quote: Shopify Basic is ₹1,994 a month (₹1,499 billed yearly), Grow ₹7,447 and Advanced ₹30,164, plus a 2%, 1% or 0.6% fee on gateway orders.
- Shopify bills paid themes as a one-time charge on a separate bill, and a purchased theme is licensed only to the store it was bought for.

A Shopify website quotation in India should list every line of work with its own price, not one number for "full website". For a typical D2C store in 2026, a starter build on a configured theme lands between ₹40,000 and ₹1,50,000, and a custom theme build between ₹1,50,000 and ₹8,00,000. Below are two sample quotes, line by line, and the terms every quote must spell out.
Most quotes I see from founders who have been shopping around are a single line on WhatsApp. That makes them impossible to compare. This post gives you the format I use, filled in with real numbers from my published rates, so you can hold any quote up against it.
For the cost bands behind these numbers, see what it costs to build a Shopify website in India and the rates hub.
What does a Shopify website quotation look like?
A proper Shopify quotation is a table: one row per piece of work, a short description of what that row covers, and a price. Under the table sit the terms: timeline, revisions, payment milestones, ownership and exclusions. A quote is usually two to four pages for a custom build, because there are genuinely that many decisions to write down.
Here is the sample I'll use. The brief: a D2C apparel brand, 120 products, six unique templates (home, collection, product, cart, about, a landing page), Razorpay plus Cash on Delivery, a shipping aggregator, Klaviyo for email and a reviews app. That's a mid-range custom theme build, and ₹3,00,000 is the same figure I use in the worked first-year example in the cost post.
Sample quote: a ₹3,00,000 custom Shopify build
| # | Line item | What it covers | Sample price | Typical range (custom builds) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Discovery and written scope | Calls, competitor review, sitemap, a signed scope document | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 – ₹50,000 |
| 2 | Design | Figma designs for 6 templates, desktop and mobile, 2 revision rounds | ₹60,000 | ₹30,000 – ₹1,40,000 |
| 3 | Theme development | Custom sections and templates coded in Liquid, editable in the theme editor | ₹1,20,000 | ₹75,000 – ₹3,50,000 |
| 4 | Product upload | 120 products with variants, images, collections and metafields | ₹9,000 | ₹35 – ₹100 per product |
| 5 | Apps | Install and configure reviews, Klaviyo, WhatsApp chat and a returns app | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 – ₹55,000 |
| 6 | Payments, COD and shipping | Razorpay, COD rules, shipping zones and rates, GST settings, test orders | ₹12,000 | ₹8,000 – ₹25,000 |
| 7 | SEO basics | Titles, meta descriptions, alt text, structured data check, sitemap submitted | ₹15,000 | ₹8,000 – ₹40,000 |
| 8 | Speed work | Image and font loading, app script audit, mobile LCP target under 2.5s | ₹20,000 | ₹10,000 – ₹50,000 |
| 9 | QA | Real devices, browsers, checkout and COD flows, broken links | ₹14,000 | ₹10,000 – ₹40,000 |
| 10 | Training and handover | Recorded walkthrough of the admin and theme editor | ₹5,000 | ₹0 – ₹10,000 |
| 11 | Post-launch support | 30 days of bug fixes after go-live | ₹15,000 | ₹0 – ₹30,000 |
| Total | ₹3,00,000 | ₹1,50,000 – ₹8,00,000 |
A few things to notice. Design and theme development are 60% of the total. That's normal for a custom build, because those two lines are where the senior hours go. The product upload line is small, and it should be. At ₹35 to ₹100 per product, you're paying for careful data entry, not engineering.
The range column shows how far each line can stretch. A store with three integrations, subscriptions and a bundle builder pushes lines 3 and 5 toward the top. A store that comes with finished Figma files from an in-house designer can drop line 2 almost entirely.
Sample quote: a ₹60,000 starter store
The same format works at the low end. Here the brief is 40 products on a free or paid theme, with no custom design.
| Line item | What it covers | Sample price |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | A one-page scope after a call | ₹5,000 |
| Theme setup | Branding, fonts, colours, all pages built from the theme's own sections | ₹25,000 |
| Product upload | 40 products with variants and collections | ₹3,000 |
| Apps | Reviews and WhatsApp chat installed and set up | ₹6,000 |
| Payments, COD and shipping | Gateway, COD, shipping zones, test orders | ₹6,000 |
| SEO basics | Titles, meta descriptions, alt text on key pages | ₹5,000 |
| QA | Mobile and desktop checks, a full test order | ₹5,000 |
| Training | Short walkthrough call | Included |
| Post-launch support | 14 days of fixes | ₹5,000 |
| Total | ₹60,000 |
There's no design line and no custom code. You live inside what the theme can do, which is the right trade for a brand that hasn't proven demand yet. I go through what each budget actually buys in a ₹50,000 vs ₹5,00,000 Shopify store.
If you'd like a quote in this format for your own store, send me your brief and I'll reply with a scoped range.
What must every Shopify quotation state?
Beyond the price table, a quote needs six written terms. Without them, the price is a guess that will change later.
- Scope. The number of unique templates, the integrations, the product count and the hard features (subscriptions, bundles, multiple markets). "Full website" is not a scope.
- Revisions. How many design rounds and how many rounds of feedback on the built store. Two of each is common. Extra rounds should have a stated price.
- Timeline. Start date, preview date and launch date, plus what you must supply (photos, copy, policies) and by when. Starter stores take one to two weeks; custom builds four to eight.
- Payment milestones. Tied to things you can see. I'd use 30% to start, 40% when you approve the store on a preview link and 30% at launch. Under ₹1,00,000, 50/50 is fine.
- Ownership. The store is created on your Shopify account, the domain is in your name, and custom code and design files transfer to you on final payment.
- Exclusions. What the price does not cover: Shopify's plan, apps, a paid theme, the domain, gateway fees, copywriting, photography and ad setup.
Also ask whether GST is included. A GST-registered developer adds GST (18% on IT services) on top, which turns a ₹3,00,000 quote into ₹3,54,000 if it was quoted exclusive.
What are the red flags in a Shopify quote?
Most bad quotes aren't scams. They're vague, and vagueness gets settled later, after you've paid. These are the patterns I'd push back on.
| Red flag in the quote | Why it's a problem | What to ask for instead |
|---|---|---|
| One line: "Full Shopify website, ₹X" | Nothing to hold the developer to | A line-by-line table like the one above |
| "Custom design" at a starter price | Usually a theme with your logo | The template count and a design file |
| No revision count | Endless rounds or a surprise bill | Two design rounds, two build rounds, priced extras |
| 100% upfront | Nothing left to hold back if the work stalls | Milestones tied to a preview link |
| Store built on the developer's account | You don't control your own business | Your account, developer as collaborator |
| "Lifetime free support" | Nobody can deliver it, so it means nothing | A fixed support window, then a stated rate |
| "Guaranteed page one on Google" | No one controls Google rankings | SEO basics listed as tasks, not outcomes |
| Theme cost bundled without naming the theme | You can't check the licence | The theme name and who buys it |
The account point matters more than people think. Shopify licenses a paid theme only to the store it was bought on, and moving it to another store means closing the original one. If a developer buys the theme on their own test store, you'll end up buying it again.
What costs sit outside the quote?
A build quote is a one-time cost. Several bills keep coming after launch, and none of them should appear in your developer's total.
| Recurring cost | What it is (as of Oct 2026) | Billed by |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify plan | Basic ₹1,994/mo (₹1,499 yearly), Grow ₹7,447 (₹5,599), Advanced ₹30,164 (₹22,680), Plus from ₹1,75,000 | Shopify |
| GST on Shopify's bill | Added to Shopify's fees unless you submit a GSTIN | Shopify |
| Shopify's third-party fee | 2% Basic, 1% Grow, 0.6% Advanced, 0.2% Plus, on gateway orders only; COD is exempt | Shopify |
| Gateway fee | Razorpay lists a 2% platform fee plus GST on standard pricing | Your gateway |
| Apps | Roughly ₹2,000 to ₹20,000+ a month for a typical D2C stack | Each app, on your Shopify bill |
| Paid theme | A one-time charge on a separate Shopify bill | Shopify |
| Retainer (optional) | ₹40,000 to ₹80,000 a month for ongoing work | Your developer |
Shopify Payments isn't available in India, so every prepaid order goes through a third-party gateway and picks up both the gateway's fee and Shopify's fee. Cash on Delivery orders pay no Shopify fee. You can model your own mix with the calculator on the Shopify pricing hub, and the full list of running costs is in the hidden costs of a Shopify store in India.
How do you compare two quotes fairly?
Send every developer the same one-page brief, then line their quotes up against the table above. The brief needs your template list, product count, integrations, hard features and launch date.
When quotes come back, compare line by line. If one quote is half the price of the others, find the line that's missing. Usually it's design, speed work or QA, and those are the lines you'll pay for later when the store is slow or the COD flow breaks on a Saturday. Hourly rates matter less than you'd think. A senior developer at ₹1,750 to ₹3,500 an hour often costs less per finished store than a beginner at ₹350 to ₹850, because the work gets done once.
Also look at how each developer responds to the brief. The good ones ask questions, push back on features you don't need and point out what's missing. A quote that comes back in ten minutes without a single question hasn't been scoped.
What I'd do
If I were collecting quotes, I'd write the one-page brief first and refuse to accept any quote that isn't broken into lines. I'd check that the store will sit on my own Shopify account, that the paid theme is bought there, and that the payment milestones line up with a preview link I can actually open.
When I quote, the expensive lines are the ones a vague quote leaves out. On Mum & You's Magento to Shopify Plus move, the redirect map and the rebuilt subscriptions were the work that protected their sales, and the migration finished with zero data loss. That kind of work only gets done when it's written into the scope.
If you want a line-by-line quote for your store, tell me about the project. I'll reply with a scoped range and the lines I'd cut if budget is tight. You can also see all my rates upfront on the rates hub.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Shopify website cost in India in 2026?
A starter Shopify store on a configured theme costs ₹40,000 to ₹1,50,000 and takes one to two weeks. A custom theme build costs ₹1,50,000 to ₹8,00,000 over four to eight weeks, and a Shopify Plus build ₹5,00,000 to ₹12,00,000. A migration from WooCommerce, Magento or another platform runs ₹1,25,000 to ₹6,00,000. Shopify's monthly plan, apps and gateway fees are separate recurring costs on top of the build. What should a Shopify website quotation include?
A good Shopify quotation lists each line of work with a price: discovery, design, theme development, product upload, apps, payments and shipping setup, SEO basics, speed work, QA, training and post-launch support. It should also state the number of templates, revision rounds, the timeline, payment milestones, who owns the store and code, and a list of what is excluded. If any of those are missing, ask before you pay a deposit. Is a ₹30,000 Shopify website quote genuine?
It can be, if it is honest about what it is. ₹30,000 usually buys a theme set up with your logo, colours, products and a few sections, which suits a new brand testing demand. The problem starts when that work is sold as a custom website. Check the quote for a template count, revision rounds and a list of exclusions. A three-line quote for a full website means the scope will be decided after you have paid. How should payment milestones work on a Shopify project?
Split the payment against work you can see. A common structure is 30% to start, 40% when you approve the store on a preview link, and 30% at launch. For starter builds under ₹1,00,000, 50% upfront and 50% at launch is normal. Avoid paying 100% upfront to anyone you have not worked with, and tie each payment to a deliverable you can open and check yourself. Are Shopify plan fees included in a developer's quotation?
No. A developer's quote covers the one-time build. Shopify bills you directly for your plan: ₹1,994 a month for Basic, ₹7,447 for Grow and ₹30,164 for Advanced on monthly billing, with GST added unless you have submitted a GSTIN. Apps, a paid theme, your domain and gateway fees are also billed separately. A good quote lists these as exclusions so nobody is surprised in month one.Who should own the Shopify store after the build?
You should. The store should be created under your own Shopify account, with the developer working as a collaborator or staff member, and the domain registered in your name. A paid theme should be bought on your store, because Shopify licenses a theme only to the store it was bought for. The quotation should say in writing that custom code and design files transfer to you on final payment. How long does it take to build a Shopify website after the quote is approved?
A starter store on a configured theme takes one to two weeks once content is ready. A custom theme build takes four to eight weeks, and a Shopify Plus build eight to twelve. The most common delay is content: product photos, descriptions and policies arriving late. A good quotation says what you must supply and by when, so the timeline does not slip on your side without anyone noticing.
