Wix to Shopify migration for D2C brands

A Wix to Shopify migration for a D2C brand usually costs ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000 and takes two to five weeks. The twist is that Wix is a closed platform — so the real work is manually rebuilding what Wix refuses to export, not transferring data.

I run Wix-to-Shopify migrations as a senior solo Shopify operator based in Delhi/NCR — no agency layer, no junior handoff. The part that decides whether a migration succeeds is not the product import; it is SEO-safe 301 redirect mapping and cleanly rebuilding the pieces Wix locks in. This is the honest version: what moves, what breaks, what it costs, and how to come out the other side faster and better-ranked than you went in.

Why do D2C brands move from Wix to Shopify?

Wix is a genuinely good tool for launching a simple site quickly. The reason D2C brands leave is almost always the same: they have outgrown it.

The specific limits that push growing brands off Wix are:

  • Checkout and D2C control. Wix gives you far less control over the checkout, upsells, bundles, and the conversion mechanics that matter once you are spending real money on ads.
  • A thinner app ecosystem. Shopify's app store is an order of magnitude larger. The subscription tool, reviews app, loyalty program, or India logistics integration you want almost certainly exists on Shopify and may not on Wix.
  • A lower performance ceiling. Wix sites are harder to make genuinely fast. As traffic and catalog grow, that ceiling becomes a conversion tax.
  • India-specific commerce. Payment gateways, COD workflows, GST invoicing, and courier integrations are simply better served on Shopify for an Indian brand.

None of this makes Wix "bad." It makes it a launch platform that a serious D2C brand eventually replaces — and the moment to do it is when the limits start costing you sales rather than just annoying you.

What does a Wix to Shopify migration cost, and how long does it take?

For an Indian D2C brand, a Wix to Shopify migration runs between ₹1,50,000 and ₹4,50,000, with most stores landing at the lower end because Wix catalogs tend to be small. Here is how the bands break down:

Store profilePrice (INR)Timeline
Small catalog (under ~100 SKUs), light content₹1,50,000 – ₹2,25,0002–3 weeks
Standard D2C store, some blog and content₹2,25,000 – ₹3,00,0003–4 weeks
Larger catalog or heavy custom features₹3,00,000 – ₹4,50,0004–5 weeks
Post-migration retainer (first 90 days)₹40,000 – ₹80,000/moongoing

The counter-intuitive part: cost tracks how much has to be rebuilt by hand, not how many products you have. A 40-product Wix store with a heavily customised design and a content-rich blog can cost more to move than a 300-product store that is visually plain. Data volume is cheap; manual reconstruction is not.

What actually transfers from Wix — and what doesn't?

This is the table every Wix migration should start with, because the honest answer is "less than you would hope":

AssetTransfers cleanly?How it's handled
Products & variantsPartlyCSV or migration app, then verified by hand
CustomersPartlyExported where Wix allows, re-imported
Historical ordersRarely cleanUsually archived as reference, not live data
Blog postsNo exportRecreated manually, old URLs 301-redirected
Static pagesNo exportRebuilt on Shopify
Design / themeNo exportRebuilt on Online Store 2.0
URL structureNoMapped with 301 redirects
Payments & checkoutNoRe-set up with an Indian gateway

The pattern is clear: your products can be moved with tooling, but your content, design, and URLs are manual work. Anyone who quotes you a "one-click Wix migration" is quietly ignoring the 70% of the job that is not the product import.

Why are Wix migrations more manual than WooCommerce or Magento?

Because Wix is a closed platform. With WooCommerce, you have full database access and a proper export (WXR), so posts, pages, products, and customers all come out in structured form. With Magento, you have complete database access too. Wix gives you a product CSV and very little else — no theme files, no clean content export, no direct database.

That single fact reshapes the project. A WooCommerce to Shopify migration or a Magento to Shopify Plus migration spends most of its effort on data mapping and redirect logic. A Wix migration spends most of its effort on rebuilding — design, pages, and blog — because there is nothing to export those from. If you want the platform-agnostic version of the process, the Shopify migration checklist for Indian D2C brands walks through the sequence that applies to any source platform.

How do you protect your SEO when leaving Wix?

SEO is where Wix migrations are won or lost, and it comes down to one artifact: the redirect map.

Every URL that currently ranks or holds backlinks must be mapped to its new Shopify address with a 301 redirect. Wix uses distinctive URL patterns — products under paths like /product-page/your-product, plus its own blog and page structures — and Shopify's URLs are different by default (products live under /products/, collections under /collections/). If you do not map old to new, every one of those URLs 404s on launch day, and the rankings and link equity attached to them evaporate.

Beyond redirects, protect these:

  • Titles and meta descriptions. Carry them over, or improve them. Do not let a migration silently reset your on-page SEO to theme defaults.
  • Heading structure. Preserve the H1/H2 hierarchy on key pages so the content reads the same to Google.
  • The sitemap. Submit Shopify's sitemap in Google Search Console on launch, and watch the coverage report for crawl errors.
  • Internal links. Update them to the new URLs so you are not relaying users through redirect chains.

Done properly, a Wix migration holds its rankings. Done carelessly, it is the classic horror story of traffic falling off a cliff the week after launch — and that outcome is entirely avoidable.

Will migrating from Wix to Shopify improve my rankings and speed?

Often, yes — and this is the part brands do not expect. Because Wix's technical SEO and performance ceiling is lower than Shopify's, a well-built migration is frequently an upgrade, not a lateral move.

On speed specifically: a lean Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme almost always posts better Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, and CLS — than a comparable Wix site, and those metrics feed both rankings and conversion. On structure, you gain cleaner URLs, proper canonical handling, and finer control over metadata than Wix exposes. The migration is the moment you also fix whatever technical debt the Wix site accumulated, so the new store is not just a copy — it is a better-optimised version of the old one.

How do India payments, COD, and GST work on Shopify?

This is a fresh setup, not a carry-over. Three things every Indian brand configures during a Wix migration:

  • Payments. Shopify Payments is not available in India, so you connect an Indian gateway — Razorpay, Cashfree, or PayU are the common choices — as your card and UPI processor.
  • COD and RTO. Cash on delivery is still a large share of Indian orders, and it brings return-to-origin (RTO) losses when undelivered COD parcels come back. You set up a COD option and, ideally, prepaid incentives and RTO safeguards to protect margin.
  • GST. Configure GST-compliant tax rates and invoicing (often via a dedicated GST invoice app) so every order produces a correct tax invoice.

None of this exists in a form Wix can hand over, so budget for it as first-time setup on every migration.

What breaks and needs rebuilding?

The features that most often surprise brands are the Wix-native ones with no direct Shopify twin:

  • Wix Bookings — appointment/booking flows are rebuilt with a Shopify booking app.
  • Members Area — Wix's membership/login system maps to Shopify customer accounts plus, sometimes, a membership app.
  • Wix Forms — replaced with a Shopify form app or theme-native forms.
  • Velo custom code — any custom Wix (Velo) functionality is re-implemented in Liquid or via an app; it does not port.

For a straightforward D2C storefront, almost everything maps cleanly. The projects that take longer are the ones where the Wix site quietly became an app in its own right. Identify those dependencies before you start so they are scoped in, not discovered mid-build.

When is the right time to migrate off Wix?

The signals that you have outgrown Wix are usually commercial, not technical. Migrate when:

  • You are spending on ads and the checkout is holding you back. If you cannot add the upsell, bundle, or streamlined checkout you need, Wix is now costing you conversion rate on paid traffic you have already paid for.
  • You keep hitting "Wix can't do that." Every time a growth idea dies because the app or integration does not exist, you are paying an opportunity cost that compounds.
  • Your page speed is stuck. If Core Web Vitals will not improve no matter what you try, the platform ceiling — not your effort — is the problem.
  • India operations are painful. Clunky COD, gateway, or GST workflows that a Shopify app would solve in an afternoon.

If two or more of these are true, the migration usually pays for itself within a quarter or two. The fix at that point is not "try harder on Wix," it is a platform that can keep up with the brand.

What a Wix to Shopify migration won't fix on its own

Migrating platforms is a foundation, not a growth strategy. Shopify gives you a faster, more controllable, better-integrated store — but it does not automatically write sharper product copy, shoot better photography, or rescue an offer that is not landing. If your Wix store was not converting because of the product or the positioning, the same problem follows you to Shopify.

What the migration does is remove the platform as the excuse and hand you the tools to act. After cutover, the work that actually moves revenue — CRO, performance tuning, and content — is finally unobstructed instead of blocked by what Wix would not let you do. Treat the migration as the day your store stops fighting you, then do the growth work on top of it.

How to migrate from Wix to Shopify, step by step

The process I follow is the seven-step sequence in the guide above: export what Wix allows, map every URL to a 301 redirect, rebuild the design on Online Store 2.0, import and verify products, set up India payments and GST, apply redirects and preserve metadata, then test and monitor. The order matters — the redirect map in particular has to exist before launch, not after, because that is what carries your rankings across the cutover.

The through-line is simple: treat the Wix export as the small part and the rebuild as the real project, and protect your SEO at every step.

What's next

If you are on Wix and starting to feel the ceiling — slow pages, a checkout you cannot shape, an app you need that does not exist — a migration is how you move without losing what you have built. As a Shopify migration expert working solo from Delhi/NCR, I map every redirect by hand and rebuild the store to rank and convert better than the Wix version did. Recent work includes Mahina (+28% AOV) and Bloom (+22% MoM revenue). Send me your Wix URL and rough catalog size, and I will come back with a fixed price, a timeline, and a redirect plan on a 30-minute call — no agency layer, just the person doing the work.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does a Wix to Shopify migration cost in India?

A Wix to Shopify migration typically costs ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000 for a standard D2C catalog, and up to ₹4,50,000 for larger stores with heavy content or custom features. Because Wix catalogs are usually smaller, most brands land at the lower end. The cost reflects manual rebuilding, not data volume — Wix's limited export is what drives the effort.
  • How long does it take to migrate from Wix to Shopify?

Most Wix to Shopify migrations take two to five weeks. A small store with a clean catalog can be done in two to three weeks; larger stores, extensive blog content, or bespoke design push it toward five. The timeline is driven less by product count and more by how much must be rebuilt by hand, since Wix exports so little.
  • Can you export everything from Wix to Shopify automatically?

No. Wix is a closed platform with limited export — you can get products out via CSV or a migration app, but blog posts, static pages, and design cannot be exported and usually have to be recreated manually. This is the single biggest difference from a WooCommerce or Magento migration, where far more transfers programmatically.
  • Will I lose my SEO rankings moving from Wix to Shopify?

Not if the migration is done properly. The risk is real but avoidable: every live Wix URL must be mapped to its Shopify equivalent with a 301 redirect, and titles and meta descriptions preserved or improved. Done right, most brands hold rankings — and many gain, because Shopify's technical SEO and speed ceiling is higher than Wix's.
  • Does migrating from Wix to Shopify improve site speed?

Usually yes. Wix has a lower performance ceiling, so a well-built Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme almost always improves Core Web Vitals — LCP, INP, and CLS — over a comparable Wix site. Speed is a ranking and conversion factor, so for many brands the migration is a genuine upgrade rather than a lateral move.
  • What Wix features don't have a direct Shopify equivalent?

Wix-specific features like Wix Bookings, the Members Area, and Wix-native forms have no one-to-one Shopify equivalent — they are rebuilt using Shopify apps or custom work. Most D2C storefront needs map cleanly to Shopify, but if your Wix site leans on these, budget time to replace them deliberately rather than assuming a like-for-like swap.
  • Can I use Shopify Payments in India after migrating from Wix?

No — Shopify Payments is not available in India. You connect an Indian gateway instead, such as Razorpay, Cashfree, or PayU, plus a COD option. This is set up during migration, along with GST-compliant invoicing and RTO handling. It is a standard part of any India Shopify build, but it is a step Wix's own payment setup does not carry over.
  • Should I recreate my Wix blog on Shopify?

Yes, if it earns traffic. Wix blog content does not export cleanly, so each post is copied over manually into Shopify's blog, with its URL 301-redirected from the old Wix path. Skipping this loses the rankings and backlinks those posts hold. If the blog gets no traffic, it can be dropped — but check Search Console before deciding.
  • Is Shopify better than Wix for a growing D2C brand?

For a scaling D2C brand, generally yes. Wix suits small, simple sites, but Shopify offers deeper checkout control, a far larger app ecosystem, better performance headroom, and India-specific commerce tooling. Brands usually leave Wix precisely because they have outgrown its D2C limits — the migration is a response to growth, not a lateral preference.
  • Do I need ongoing help after a Wix to Shopify migration?

Not always, but the first 90 days matter most. A post-migration retainer (₹40,000 to ₹80,000 a month) covers monitoring redirects, watching Search Console for crawl errors, and fixing anything that surfaces after cutover. Many brands take it for a quarter, then move to ad-hoc support once the new store has settled.
