What a Shopify store redesign costs in India

A Shopify store redesign in India costs roughly ₹40,000 ($475) for a surgical refresh of your existing theme, and ₹1,50,000–₹8,00,000 ($1,800–$9,500) for a full custom rebuild. Most growing D2C brands land in the ₹1,50,000–₹4,00,000 band. The number is driven by scope — page count, custom sections, integrations — not by the word "redesign."

I am a senior solo Shopify developer based in Delhi, and redesigns are a large share of what I do — usually for brands that outgrew a premium theme or inherited a store from an agency that has stopped answering. This is the honest breakdown: what a redesign actually costs, what separates it from a rebuild, what moves the number, and how to know whether it pays back before you spend a rupee.

Redesign vs rebuild: which one do you actually need?

The word "redesign" hides two very different projects, and knowing which one you need is the single biggest cost decision you will make.

A redesign keeps your existing theme and restyles it — new colours, typography, a rebuilt hero, a cleaner product-page layout, better spacing and imagery. The underlying template structure stays. This is the right move when the bones of your store are sound and it just looks dated or off-brand.

A rebuild replaces the theme entirely. New custom theme, new information architecture, reworked templates, fresh sections. This is what you need when the current theme is an old, heavily-patched build, when it fights every new app you install, or when the structure itself is the problem — not just the paint.

ApproachWhat changesPrice (INR)Price (USD)Best for
Visual refreshStyling, key pages, hero₹40,000 – ₹1,50,000$475 – $1,800A sound theme that looks dated
Partial rebuildNew home + product + collection templates₹1,50,000 – ₹4,00,000$1,800 – $4,800Structural issues on core pages
Full custom rebuildWhole theme, new IA, all templates₹1,50,000 – ₹8,00,000$1,800 – $9,500Outgrown the current build entirely

Here is the counter-intuitive part: on an old, tangled theme, a rebuild is often cheaper than a redesign. Restyling code you cannot safely touch takes longer than replacing it, and you end up with a store that is still fragile. If a developer quotes a low "refresh" number and then keeps hitting walls, you pay rebuild prices for redesign results. Get this call right up front. The same logic that governs a custom theme versus a premium theme applies here.

What actually drives the cost of a redesign?

Two redesigns can differ by 5x for the same-looking result. Here is what moves the number, in rough order of impact.

  • Number of unique page types. Home, product, collection, cart, about, blog — each custom template is real design and build work. A three-page refresh and a full-catalogue redesign are not the same project.
  • Custom sections and functionality. A static hero is cheap. A bundle builder, a size guide with variant logic, a "shop the look" block, or a quiz cost real hours because they are code, not styling.
  • Content readiness. If your copy, photography, and product data are ready and clean, the build flies. If the developer is waiting on assets or restructuring your catalogue, that time lands on your invoice.
  • Integrations and apps. Reviews, subscriptions, loyalty, WhatsApp, a headless search — each app block has to be re-styled and re-wired into the new design. App-heavy stores cost more to redesign, which is also why app overhead is worth auditing while you are in there.
  • Performance and mobile. Doing it properly — Core Web Vitals, mobile-first layouts, lazy-loading, a lean footprint — is included in a serious quote. It is not a line item you should have to ask for.

The developer's seniority matters too, but less than most brands assume. My Shopify developer rates sit in the senior band, and a senior operator usually delivers a redesign in fewer, cleaner cycles than a cheaper freelancer who reworks it three times. You pay for the outcome, not the hours.

What does a redesign actually include at each price?

Ranges are useless without knowing what they buy. Here is the honest mapping for the Indian market.

Budget (INR)Budget (USD)What you get
₹40,000 – ₹80,000$475 – $950One or two key pages restyled — usually home + product — on your existing theme
₹80,000 – ₹1,50,000$950 – $1,800A full visual refresh: consistent styling across the store, rebuilt hero and product page
₹1,50,000 – ₹4,00,000$1,800 – $4,800New custom theme for core templates, restructured pages, performance and mobile work
₹4,00,000 – ₹8,00,000$4,800 – $9,500Full custom rebuild — every template, custom sections, integrations, the works

For context, a brand-new store from scratch runs the same ₹1,50,000–₹8,00,000 as a full rebuild, because a rebuild is a new build — you are just keeping your data and content. The full breakdown is in what it costs to build a Shopify website, and the concrete "what you get" comparison is in what ₹50K buys versus ₹5L.

One number worth calling out on its own: a single product-page redesign — rebuilt as a proper custom section with variant logic, trust blocks, and reviews — falls in the ₹40,000–₹1,50,000 range and is frequently the highest-ROI redesign you can buy. The product page is where the purchase decision is won or lost, so fixing it moves revenue faster than restyling pages nobody converts on.

What about platform and app costs on top?

A redesign is developer time, but it lands on a store you are already paying to run. Keep the ongoing costs in view so the redesign budget is not a surprise on top of a rising monthly bill.

As of 2026 (always verify on shopify.com/in/pricing), the Shopify plans in India run approximately:

PlanMonthly (INR)Annual billing (INR/mo)Third-party gateway fee
Basic~₹1,994~₹1,499~2%
Shopify~₹7,447~₹5,599~1%
Advanced~₹30,164~₹22,680~0.5%
Plusfrom $2,300/mo (₹1.9–2 lakh/mo)negotiated

Annual billing saves roughly 25%. The platform transaction fee is 0% on Shopify Payments and applies only if you route payments through a third-party gateway — a detail worth getting right, which I cover in Shopify Payments, COD and GST in India. A redesign does not change your plan, but it is the natural moment to check you are on the right one, and to trim the app subscriptions a rebuild often lets you remove. App prices change constantly, so verify current numbers before you budget.

How do I know I actually need a redesign?

A redesign is a real expense, so tie it to a real problem. Here are the signals that justify one — and the ones that do not.

Redesign when:

  • Your conversion rate is stuck below your category benchmark and the store itself is a suspect — confusing navigation, weak product pages, no trust signals. Start by diagnosing why the store is not converting.
  • The store is slow. If your Core Web Vitals are failing, you are losing mobile buyers and Google rankings at the same time, and a rebuild is often the cleanest fix.
  • Mobile feels like an afterthought. With 70–85% of Indian D2C traffic on phones, a desktop-first store is leaving money on the table every day.
  • The current build blocks growth — it cannot support the apps, subscriptions, or B2B features you need next.
  • You inherited a store from an agency or freelancer and no one can safely change it any more.

Do not redesign when:

  • The store converts fine and simply looks dated to you. Taste is not a revenue problem. Spend on traffic and CRO first.
  • You have not actually diagnosed the issue. Redesigning blind often moves the same problems to a prettier page.
  • The real problem is product, pricing, or positioning. No layout fixes an offer the market does not want.

The honest test: can you name the specific metric a redesign will move? If yes, it is probably worth it. If the answer is "it'll look better," pause and diagnose first.

What is the ROI on a redesign?

This is the only question that matters, and it is answerable with your own numbers. A redesign pays back through some mix of higher conversion rate, higher average order value, and better mobile performance. The maths is simple once you frame it as payback period.

Take a store doing ₹10,00,000 a month at a 1.5% conversion rate. A redesign that lifts conversion to 2.0% — a realistic result when the old store had genuine UX and speed problems — adds roughly ₹3,30,000 a month in revenue at the same traffic. Against a ₹3,00,000 redesign, that is a payback in under a month, then pure upside.

ScenarioMonthly revenueAfter redesign (est.)Monthly lift
CR 1.5% → 2.0%₹10,00,000₹13,30,000~₹3,30,000
CR 1.5% → 2.0%₹25,00,000₹33,30,000~₹8,30,000
AOV +10% only₹10,00,000₹11,00,000~₹1,00,000

The point is not that every redesign returns this — some do not, especially if the store was already fine. The point is that the calculation is knowable. Before you commit, run your own conversion rate and traffic through it. If the store has a clear, measurable weakness, the payback is usually fast and obvious. If you cannot make the numbers work on paper, that is your answer: the store is not where your revenue is leaking, and the money belongs somewhere else.

Two things quietly protect that ROI, and both belong in the written scope. First, do not lose SEO in the move — keep your URLs, redirects, content, and structured data intact, or you trade a conversion gain for a traffic loss. Second, measure before and after — set a clean baseline so you can prove the lift instead of guessing at it. A redesign you cannot measure is a redesign you cannot justify next time.

What's next

If your store has a specific, measurable problem — slow, not converting, or simply outgrown — that is exactly what a redesign should fix, and I will tell you honestly whether you need one. The Shopify developer in Delhi page lays out how I work: senior hours end to end, a written scope with a fixed price before any work starts, and named case studies. Or tell me your store URL, revenue, and the problem you are seeing at /start, and I will come back with a fixed number and a straight answer on whether a redesign is even the right spend.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does a Shopify store redesign cost in India?

A Shopify redesign in India ranges from about ₹40,000 for a targeted visual refresh of an existing theme to ₹1,50,000–₹8,00,000 for a full custom rebuild. Most growing D2C brands land in the ₹1,50,000–₹4,00,000 band — a new custom theme, restructured key pages, and performance work. The figure moves with page count, custom sections, and integrations, not with the word "redesign" itself.
  • What is the difference between a Shopify redesign and a rebuild?

A redesign restyles your existing theme — new colours, typography, hero, product-page layout — while keeping the underlying structure. A rebuild replaces the theme entirely with a fresh custom build, new information architecture, and reworked templates. Redesigns start near ₹40,000; rebuilds start near ₹1,50,000. If your store is on an old, patched theme, a rebuild is usually cheaper than fighting the old code.
  • How long does a Shopify redesign take?

A focused refresh of a few key pages takes one to three weeks. A full custom rebuild — new theme, restructured templates, performance and migration of content — typically runs four to eight weeks depending on catalogue size and how many custom sections and integrations are involved. The biggest delays are almost always content and approvals on your side, not the development itself.
  • When is a Shopify redesign worth the money?

A redesign pays back when conversion, speed, or mobile experience is demonstrably holding revenue down, or when the current build blocks the apps and features you need to grow. If the store simply looks dated but converts fine, spend on traffic and CRO first. Redesign for a measurable problem, not for a fresh coat of paint you cannot tie to revenue.
  • Can I just buy a new premium theme instead of a redesign?

A premium theme (₹15,000–₹35,000) is a real option for early-stage stores and can be a smart starting point. But swapping themes is not a plug-and- play redesign — your content, custom sections, and app blocks all need re-doing, which is where the developer cost sits. A theme buys you a starting layout, not a finished, on-brand, fast store.
  • Will a redesign hurt my SEO or rankings?

It can, if done carelessly. URL changes without redirects, removed content, or lost structured data all cost rankings. A proper redesign preserves URLs, keeps your content and schema, and improves Core Web Vitals — which helps SEO rather than hurting it. Insist on a redirect plan and a pre-launch SEO check as part of the scope, in writing.
  • How much does it cost to redesign just the product page?

A single high-impact page — usually the product page — redesigned and rebuilt as a custom section falls in the ₹40,000–₹1,50,000 range, depending on how much custom functionality it needs (variant logic, bundles, trust blocks, reviews). It is often the highest-ROI redesign you can buy, because the product page is where most purchase decisions are won or lost.
  • Does a redesign include mobile and speed optimisation?

It should — but confirm it in the scope. On Indian D2C traffic, 70–85% of visits are mobile, so any redesign that is not mobile-first and performance-tuned is unfinished. A serious quote includes responsive layouts, Core Web Vitals work, and a lightweight app footprint. If speed and mobile are treated as extras, that is a red flag about the developer, not a saving.
